fanmix: salt water, sweat, tears, sea (dishonored)

oops i mixed again.

this one's the general heartbreak that comes with sea shanties and the irish, but then, samuel beechworth did go to sea to forget a hopeless love.

[ dishonored || samuel beechworth + the sea]

great big sea || the banks of newfoundland
nightwish || the islander
string sisters || luseblus

damien dempsey || factories
celia ní fhátharta || úna dheas ní nia
alasdair fraser || sally mo ghradh
damien dempsey || go to sea no more
loreena mckennitt || kecharitomene

  • The English lyrics to Úna Dheas Ní Nia generally translates to:

If I were as once I was, without age or pain in my bones
All Erin's men would not keep me from the place my love would be
I'd be ever gazing at her beauty, the brightest, fairest, loveliest,
With all the love I gave her, something lodged in my heart

What wonder that the young men are always talking about a woman
Or hoping to taste a kiss from her - 'twas the maiden whom Christ blessed -
But without you I'll not live a month, with all the love I have for you,
It's a shame you and I are not married, lovely Úna Ní Nia.

  • The entirety of the words in "Factories" just tempts you to lose faith in humanity.

  • "The Islander" has:

An old man by a sea shore at the end of day
Gazes the horizon with sea winds in his face.
Tempest-tossed island, seasons all the same.
Anchorage unpainted and a ship without a name.

Sea without a shore for the vanished one unheard
He lightens the beacon, light at the end of world.
Showing the way, lighting hope in their hearts,
The ones and their travels homeward from afar.

Now his love`s a memory, a ghost in the fog.
He sets the sails one last time saying farewell to the world.
Anchor to the water, seabed far below,
Grass still in his feet and a smile beneath his brow.

  • I suppose "Go to Sea No More" is more appropriate for the anonymous letters you find from old whalers:

He shipped me on board of a whaling ship bound for the arctic seas
Where the cold winds blow through the frost and snow and Jamaica rum would freeze
But worse to bear, I'd no hard weather gear for I'd spent all money on shore
'twas then that I wished that I was dead and could go to sea no more

and apparently I just

have a lot of feelings about the whalers and sailors and SAMUEL
