the fight goes on in this the babylon
FF7 || NC-17 (sex, mild D/s, trauma recovery); post-AC || Sephiroth/Cloud || ~29.5k words

When Sephiroth is discovered in the heart of Aeris' church, floating naked on his back in the shallow pool of rainwater, time stands still. It stands still like every cliché in which Cloud's heart stops, fear and hatred and his heart clawing at his throat like rats. It stands still and for a moment Cloud exists as a hollow shell, a rain of bullets on a lonely cliff, a sword through the back and the slow fall of a little marble into a still lake.

Read this on AO3. As usual, your characters are realistically nuanced, and your plot was a new take on a standard theme (Ah, romance!)

It was an interesting dissection of the issue of forgiveness, the nature of second chances and consent.

Funny you should say that -- I had been reflecting on old, unfinished resurrected!Sephiroth fics from like ten, twelve years ago. On the rare occasions I read fic in any FF fandom I usually stick to the old stuff from people like knowing shadows, icedark_elf, ciceqi, chibirisuchan, thorne, twig, and such because I hate the Compilation so much, so when I posted this story and then thought, hey, what the hell, I'll take a look at the popular FF7 fics on AO3, I was like...oh, there's a resurrected!Sephiroth fic right here, now I kind of feel like an asshole. /ramble

But thank you. :D

...If that was an asshole thing to say, I sincerely apologize. I'm so out of the loop and I have an uncanny ability to say exactly the wrong things.

Nah, it actually made perfect sense. There are always themes in any fandom with more than a couple fics (and even then...)

I've actually been out of the FFVII fandom for a while. Like you, if I do read anything, it's old favourites (or new stories by favourite authors). Sometimes I think I'm afraid the plot bunnies will find me if I go back, and I really don't have time to add another fic idea to the stack I've already got.
